SEL (Social & Emotional Learning)

Social and Emotional Learning (S.E.L), also known to students as circle time, is integral to the social, emotional and academic wellbeing of a student. Schools provide a safe and secure environment for students to develop their social and emotional awareness, along with skills and strategies to ensure social and emotional wellbeing. S.E.L can also engage students in understanding what constitutes respectful relationships and how to achieve respectful relationships, both within oneself and with peers and the wider community.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) learning materials are designed for primary school teachers to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills. This is used as a resource to help underpin our Social and Emotional Learning program.

The RRRR learning materials include 8 Social and Emotional Learning topics:

  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal Strengths
  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Stress Management
  • Help Seeking
  • Gender Norms and Stereotypes
  • Positive Relationships.

These topics are taught for one hour a week, throughout prep to year 6.
