Principal's Message: 28th June 2023

Dear families,

We’ve made it through a very big (and long) term. Students and staff will most certainly benefit from the upcoming break.

In the lead up to our break, I want to thank you all for your continued support as we work together to educate your children.

Staff news

Kylie Gibb, one of our Learning Support Officers, has resigned. Kylie was a great support to staff early in the new year as we helped one of our students transition into Primary schooling. We wish Kylie all the best.

From Term 3, we have a new learning support officer commencing with us. Sophie Griffin, an Altona local, will join our incredible team to work with our very fortunate students.

We have also hired Kristy Talty as our new front-of-house. Kristy has experience in working in Catholic primary schools and is looking forward to joining us next term. I know you will join me in making her feel welcome.

A huge congratulations to our own Amelia Baird who this week, was a finalist in Chisholm Education’s Vocational Student of the Year awards. You can read more about her inspirational journey into the world of learning support here. While she was not crowned the winner, she is an absolute winner in our eyes. As someone who could have had their pick of schools, Amelia, we are thrilled you chose St Mary’s.

A request

As we head into holidays, we ask that parents take a look at their children’s jumpers, jackets etc to ensure they have not inadvertently taken home the wrong one. We have been told that some children have lost jackets that were clearly labelled with their names. Please take a look at all of your children’s pieces these holidays and return any that don’t belong to them. Hopefully we can return pieces to their rightful owners next term.

P&F Adult night

Please check your inbox for information regarding tentative interest for our upcoming P&F Adult night. We are currently gauging interest.

Alternatively, you can register your interest here.

It looks like it is going to be a great night for the adults in our community to get together. I often hear about the fantastic evenings our parent/carer community has shared in the past. This night looks like it will be the next big event we will speak about for years to come.

Wishing you a wonderful break from the routines of school days.

I look forward to seeing you back for Term 3 on Tuesday 16th July.
