Week 6 Term 2

Principal's Message: 24th May 2024

A happy feast day to our community!

It’s been a fantastic day of celebrations as always. We commenced with Mass followed by a great session with Kaboom Kid Sports, celebrating team work and sportsmanship. The session culminated with a special lunch.

Thank you to Mr Hein and Mrs Masseni for coordinating the day.

This week we began interviewing prospective Prep families hoping to join us in 2025. At this stage, we have had strong interest shown and will likely end up with a waiting list. It’s a lovely time of the year when we get to share all of the great things about our school with these potential new families. It’s always fun meeting new children and starting to get to know them.

Fundraising update

Our families and students have been very patient with our project efforts and you may have noticed some movement (not literal!) with our tram receiving a new coat of roof paint, waterproofing it, so it’s ready to undergo some internal work. We have finalised some pricing and work will begin commencing shortly in earnest.

Our gaga pits have been a huge hit and continue to be full every break time.

Our next painted concrete game will be installed this coming Wednesday. It will be a "What’s the Time, Mr Wolf" activity, laid next to the Sargood street entrance.

I have had a parent express interest in helping manage our sensory garden project.

The first part we’d like to undertake is a curving path made out of all sorts of different materials/textures. If there is anyone in our community who has the skills to undertake this part of the project or knows someone who can help, we’d love to hear from them. I can share some images for reference. Please contact me at sriccardi@smaltona.catholic.edu.au

I will hopefully have an update on this project soon.

Camp Australia: June 7th

You will have read already that Camp Australia will be operating on our next closure day, Friday 7th June. They’ve received huge interest and this will mean they may be able to offer the service on future closure days. Please contact them directly to arrange for your child’s attendance. Information can be found here.

Our school App

We announced some improved functionality with our Updat-ed App in previous newsletters. If you are registered and have the app on your phone, you should have begun receiving notifications via the app. We think this function will assist in providing better, more just-in-time information for our families. If you are having difficulties with the app, please contact Marg (mmasseni@smaltona.catholic.edu.au) for assistance. If you have any feedback on your experience, please let me know.

Have a great weekend.

Stay warm, stay safe,

St Mary’s Primary School Feast Day

A Feast Day Recap!
In celebration of our beloved patron saint, Mary Help of Christians, the entire school came together for a special mass. Following mass, both staff and students embarked on a fun filled afternoon with games and boundless enthusiasm from the Kaboom Sports team. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as everyone embraced the festivities.

The Kaboom Sports team provided an array of activities catered to diverse interests, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

As students' hunger levels grew they gathered once more to share a warm meal provided by the school.

After lunch students reflected on the significance of St. Mary's teachings, finding inspiration in her unwavering faith and compassion.

The success of the Feast Day festivities was a testament to the collective effort and dedication of our school community. Through our shared devotion to St. Mary, we continue to strive to uphold the values she embodies – kindness, generosity, and solidarity.

May St. Mary continue to watch over us, with her love and grace.

John Hein

Deputy Principal
