Real Schools Information Session

Hopefully you have read the Operoo note sent this week about our partnership with Real Schools and the information session they are running for families on 16th April.  It will run from 6 - 6.30pm and will be held upstairs in the TRI Centre. This session promises to offer valuable insights and strategies aimed at enhancing the educational journey of our students using a restorative behavior model.

The session is for adults only however we are able to offer child minding for school and 4 year old kinder aged children.  Please indicate via the Operoo note if you will be attending. We will send a google form shortly so you can advise us if you will require child minding.

In the meantime and so you can put a face to the presenter, click here to view a short video featuring Daniel Vella, our Real Schools expert facilitator.  In the video he explains the nature of our partnership and a little about the information session.

We hope you can join us.

2024 National Ride to School Day

National Ride2School Day is a cherished annual event that not only promotes sustainable transportation but also fosters a sense of community and well-being among students.

On 22 March students and staff alike aim to leave their cars at home and embrace alternative modes of transportation such as bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or even walking.

National Ride2School Day is not just about reducing carbon footprints; it's a celebration of health, fitness, and the joy of being outdoors. Students revel in the freedom and empowerment that comes with navigating their journey to school independently. The event also promotes road safety awareness, encouraging responsible habits among the young participants.

To further support this day our House Captains will be collecting data around how students are getting to school, as well as, assigning house points to the appropriate teams. National Ride2School Day serves as a reminder that small, collective actions can contribute to a more sustainable and interconnected future.

Aussie of the Month - February

Congratulations to our February Aussie of the Month students - Teri, Amelia and Miller.  Click here to see their smiling faces and to find out why they are so wonderful.

Mother's Day Mass & Reflection Slides

Our Mother's Day Mass will be held on Friday 10th May at 10am. It will be preceded by morning tea in the hall at 8:45am and classroom visits from 9:25am. Everyone is welcome. Once again we would love to put together a slide presentation for our Mother's Day mass - one that helps us to celebrate the many mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other significant women in the lives of our children.

We ask that you make a slide for your family in the linked presentation.

There is an instruction slide included. Our Year 3 - 6 students are quite good at working with Google Slides and I am sure that they would be able to help you. If that's not possible please don't hesitate to contact me via EMAIL - mmasseni@smaltona.catholic.edu.au and I will give you a hand.

I still have access to the slides from last year and can transfer slides over if you are not able to make a new one this year. Once again, send me an email and I will check to see if I have one for you.

Run for the Kids

Congratulations and thank you to the many staff, family members and students who participated in the Run for the Kids event last weekend. It was a beautiful day to be out and about in Melbourne and wonderful to see the camaraderie that helped us to complete our chosen events. Many thanks also to the people who donated to our fundraising page.  In all we raised $889 for the Royal Children's Hospital.

We never would have got this off the ground if not for Ala Sottile, our super enthusiastic Physical Education teacher. She came up with the idea to participate, drummed up support and even printed up our tshirts. We love you Ala!

Check out our photo gallery below.

We can't wait for next year.  Maybe you will be able to join us.

Harmony Day

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

On Thursday the students celebrated Harmony day by dressing up and learning about each others' culture. The teachers partook in A Taste of Harmony and shared their culture's food with each other.

It was great to see so many students dressed up and sharing information about their culture with each other.

Please see attached some photos of the day.

Thank you again,

Kind Regards;
