Term 3 Week 9

Principal's Message: 9 September 2022

Dear families,

I have truly appreciated the little spots of sunshine we’ve experienced throughout this week, as I’m sure you have.

Can you believe we have nearly made it to the end of another term?

This week we wrapped up St Mary’s Got Talent. It was a great effort from the House Team Leaders to put this together, particularly Ashley and Kamryn, who worked hard everyday to bring all the acts together. The hosts made us laugh with their cringeworthy jokes and the acts were amazing.  The arts are so important as they allow for students to shine in ways they may have otherwise been unable. I’ve had a great time learning about so many of our students’ hidden talents. Congratulations to all our participants.

Our office has made it to the 21st century with the introduction of an eftpos machine! You are now able to make credit card payments more easily when you visit the office.

Thank you to the parents who have already completed our MACSSIS survey. It will remain open until next Friday. Our school takes the results of this survey very seriously, so the more participants we have, the more representative the results will be our our community’s opinion. If you have not received your log in details or would like us to resend these to you, please let me know (sriccardi@smaltona.catholic.edu.au

Preparation has already begun for 2023. At this stage, I can announce that we have decided to increase our classes to 13, introducing another Year 1/2 class for 2023. This decision was made to ensure smaller class sizes across the school. It enables us to have class sizes of between 20 and 23 instead of requiring us to have classes of up to 28 students.

The family of William in 1/2RT welcomed a new baby boy into their lives. Jai Hudson was born on Saturday 3rd September weighing 4.1kg. William, you’re going to be a great big brother.

Congratulations to Jayde, Cody, William and your family.

May Jai’s life be blessed with health and happiness.

Here is some cuteness to take you into the weekend!

Wishing you all a restful weekend,

Sonia.

Today, gaming platforms are where kids often like to hang out, stay connected, chat and even make new friends.  How can you ensure that they are doing this in a safe way? Check out this tip sheet provided to us by our partners in cyber awareness and safety, the CyberSafety Project team.  It has some great information about BEING AWARE and BEING PREPARED.  And for even more information head to the CyberSafety Project Blog.

Footy Fun Day is nearly here!

Remember to wear your FOOTY COLOURS on Monday 12th September.  Face painting will be held on the netball court from 8.15am. Cost 50 cents per cihld or $1 per family.

A note about the face paint we use was sent via Seesaw earlier in the week.  While our face paints are child friendly, if your child has sensitive skin we recommend that they don't have their fae painted.

Wearing 'Footy Colours' does not mean that students must wear AFL approved gear.  eg. Bulldogs supporters could come along in red, white and blue clothes.

Non AFL supporters can wear casual clothes.

Assembly will be held as usual on that day at 2.20pm.  The assembly will be hosted by 5/6L and 5/6C.

Children who did not order a lunch from Salt n Pepa should bring their lunch as usual.  There is NO CANTEEN on this day.

Regards
Marg Masseni
Deputy Principal
