Action for Happiness: Meaningful May

How can we find a greater sense of purpose and meaning? Being part of something bigger than ourselves - and focusing on the things we value - is vital for our wellbeing.   So let's take time to reflect on what we care about this month and prioritise the things that matter.
Start the month by making a list of what matters most to you and why.

Click here to download a copy of the Action for Happiness: Meaningful May calendar.
You can also get reminders about how you can make your life more meaningful by downloading the Action for Happiness App.

Parents & Friends: Annual General Meeting

The St Mary's Parents and Friends Committee will be holding its Annual General Meeting Wednesday May 12th at 7.30pm.

The P&F is a fantastic way to get to know the amazing families at the school, at the same time playing a huge role in raising funds that go directly back to our students. In the past the  P&F have raised funds that have been able to update the literature department, contributing significantly to upgrading IT for the students by purchasing iPads, as well as sports equipment, among many other things.

We currently have an amazing group of parents on our committee, but are always looking for new members to add to our team.  If you are interested in volunteering, please come and join us- as well love to meet new families.

As this will be an AGM, all of the following positions will be vacated, so if you feel you might want to fill a position, please send an expression of interest to me, Susie Holland (current President) directly or via Sonia (principal@smaltona.catholic.edu.au).

Vice President

Due to COVID the P&F has been unable to run its fundraising events as normal, so we are looking to really get things back on track this year for our wonderful students. We look forward to seeing some new and old faces there!!

Mother's Day Stall

All children will have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful gift for Mum, Nan, Gran, Aunty or that Special Lady in their life.  All gifts will range between $1 & $6. It would be great if the children could bring along a bag to put their gifts into. All students will have the opportunity to purchase a gift between 11.30 and 1.30pm on Friday 7th May.

Thanks to those who have offered to help out with the stall. Stacey will be in touch with further information.

Introducing ~ Loretta Balfoort: Release Teacher

I was born in the old Altona Hospital, grew up in Sargood Street and St Mary’s was my Primary School. I still live in Altona.

I have a husband, Shane and two daughters. Natalie is in Year 11 and Chloe is in Year 6.

We love to travel with our caravan and have toured Australia. As a family, we also love to cruise. We have sailed to the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea.

You may see me at the Altona Basketball Stadium where I manage two Altona Pirates teams. Give me a wave when you do!

At St Mary’s I am a Release Teacher. When our hard-working Graduate Teachers need time with their Mentors, I step in to their grade and continue with their program. I think I have the best job in the world!

Walk Safely to School Day

Our next Walk/Ride to School Day will be held on Friday 14th May.  Although the weather is getting cooler it would be wonderful to see as many students & their families coming to school in an active way as possible.

ANZAC Day Service

On Sunday 25th April, our School Captains, Charlotte, Zara, Finian and Aidan, laid a wreath on behalf of the school community at the Dawn Service. It was a very moving service attended by many from the local community.  It was wonderful to see the tradition continue.
