St Mary's eNews

Week 8 Term 4

Principal's Message: 24 November 2023

Dear families,

As we edge ever closer to the end of another school year and into Advent, we are reminded of the importance of taking time to slow down, breathe and remember what’s important in life.

Many members of our own school community are currently experiencing significant difficulties.

I ask you to keep the Busuttil family (Logan and Scarlett) in your prayers as baby Harlen awaits a liver transplant. Kristy has also appealed that I share the importance of organ donation with you all.

Elizabeth, Year 3, has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Doctors are confident it is treatable and the prognosis is positive. Elizabeth has commenced treatment and is expected to be able to go home very soon.

We also have many other families with their own private struggles. We ask for your continued prayers.

In another wonderful example of support within our community, I have been inundated with volunteers for new family buddies. Thank you so much to those who have nominated. New families have loved this initiative over the last year and I know it will be an invaluable provision this year also. If you don’t receive a buddy family in this round, I will keep you on our list for future new families.

Our Walkathon raffle was a great success yesterday. Thank you to the P&F who organised the event. Raffles are a tricky scenario for many children to navigate, but we continue to work with them to navigate their understanding of chance and manage their expectations.

Our P&F, SAC and students have some great ideas on how to spend the raised funds. We are attempting to get a few smaller projects done over the Christmas holidays.

Have a blessed weekend,

JSC: Sports Dress Up Day

The JSC will host a Sports Dress Up day on Thursday 30th November.  Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite sportsperson or in their most loved sports style clothes.  Shoes must be closed in and sunsmart hats must be worn.  A gold coin donation is not required.

Walkathon Raffle

Thanks to everyone who participated in our walkathon and raised money. We held our raffle today and 63 prizes were given out. Some lucky people got two and a couple even got three.  Overall we raised around $10,000. This money will go towards renovating the tram and some other projects which we know the kids will love.  Watch this space to find out more in the coming weeks.  A donation will also be given to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

A very special thank you to the Parents & Friends committee for organising this very successful event.
