Week 10 Term 3

Acting Principal News

Dear families,

In the blink of an eye Term 3 is over.  It only seems like yesterday that we started.  Hopefully the term has come with many learnings that will be taken into Term 4 and beyond.

The Parents & Friends began to organise the walkathon at their meeting this week. Held on 27th October, it is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for the school. As you know, one project is the restoration of the tram.  We are in talks with the School Advisory Council and also with staff about what other projects could be added to the list.  If you have ideas, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Once again this year, the P & F are seeking sponsorship by way of big-ticket items or monetary donations. If you or your workplace might be interested in this, please contact the school office.

In Week 1 of Term 4 we will be asking groups of students for their ideas for the sensory garden.  We ask that you discuss the garden with your children, perhaps do a google search or two, and come up with some concepts that might work in our space. I am happy for you to email your ideas to me over the holidays.

I hope that everyone has a relaxing and fun-filled holiday break. I look forward to seeing you all on the 2nd October ready and enthusiastic for Term 4.

Regards

Marg

Meeting Report

On Wednesday the P&F Committee held our September meeting. We discussed the amazing fundraising efforts of Term 3 and looked at what needs to be done for a busy Term 4.
We are very excited to announce that with all the support of our wonderful community we were able to raise over $2000 from our Neon Disco night and over $1000 from our Father’s Day Stall. A very big thank you to the members of the P&F who organised these fundraising events and to the
parent volunteers who helped out. What a great result!

Looking towards Term 4 we have some very exciting events coming up. We will be hosting the annual Walkathon on Friday the 27th October, a Family Photo Shoot Opportunity on the 28th October and 5th November, a movie night at the cinemas on the 30th November and more! Keep an eye out for the promo materials with all the information coming out shortly.

Our biggest event for the year is the Walkathon promoting Child Safety. We are still seeking families who may be able to help sponsor the event by donating prizes for the raffle. If you are able to help out in any way or want to find out more, please get in touch with us. We’d love any support on offer.

Finally, we’d like to wish families a happy holiday break and we look forward to organising events in Term 4 for all the incredible kids at St. Mary’s. Our October meeting is scheduled at 7.30pm on Wednesday the 11 th of October. New members or parents just wanting to share ideas and a cuppa are very welcome to join us.

See you next term,
Adele

Australian Girls Choir Visit

The Australian Girls Choir came to St. Mary’s on Wednesday!

Monique ran a workshop with 14 special girls where they learnt different vocal techniques such as how to change the pitch in their voices. They also learnt a song called “Great Big Moose”

Great work by all the participants. Nicole and I are looking forward to hearing these wonderful voices in the choir and in Performing Arts classes.
