Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

This term, to discuss your child’s progress in reference to their report we are holding in person and online, parent-teacher-student conferences. At parent-teacher-student conferences we expect, wherever possible, that students are present.  These meetings are designed to include parents, teachers and students and ultimately, to be facilitated by your child with the support of their classroom teacher.

For this semester, students in all year levels will share a piece of work or learning experience in which they were proud of their achievement. Students in years 3 to 6 will also reflect on their progress and share a goal that they want to work towards. This is an important opportunity for your child to engage in the demonstration of their understanding and to take ownership of their learning. As we begin to implement the Visible Learning Framework, we will be encouraging and supporting students to take greater and greater responsibility for the setting and monitoring of their own learning goals.

There may be questions or concerns you'd like to share with the teacher without your child being present. Once your child has shared their work with you, time can be made for this. For any questions or concerns regarding student progress or the conferences, please contact your child’s classroom teacher directly.

CyberSafety Project

Are your children just consuming technology?

Technology moderation is important. Children need to balance time spent
online and how they are using technology (consumption vs creativity).
A child who has a good balance and is mindful of their consumption
of technology is conscious of ‘what’ and ‘how’ it might be
impacting their physical and mental wellbeing.

Global Academic Challenge Results

Last week we were privileged to present those students who particpated in the Global Academic Challenge run by ACRER earlier this year with their certificates. The challenge was run for students in years 4 and 6 across three categories, Reading, Mathematics and Science. St Mary's entered students in every category at both age groups and every student who participated received a certificate. Some students received special awards based on their results and these were presented to students also. Those students who placed in the top 50% at their age group received a Credit award, a Distinction was given to those whose results were in the top 25%. A medallion was awarded to the top scoring student (or students if the same score was achieved) in each category at each year level.

In Mathematics, St Mary's students were awarded 4 Credit awards and 1 Distinction at Year 6 from the 10 students who attempted it and 1 Credit award from the 6 students at Year 4 who took the challenge.

In Reading,  St Mary's students were awarded 4 Credit awards and 1 Distinction at Year 6 from the 10 students who attempted it and 1 Credit award from the 7 students at Year 4 who took the challenge.

In Science, only one Year 6 student and one Year 4 student from St Mary's the challenge. We were amazed that our Year 6 student was awarded a Distinction and our Year 4 student was awarded the medallion after a near perfect score.

Here are some photos of our high achievers.

We are incredibly proud of all who competed

Yours in Education

Introducing ~ Nancy Leone

I grew up in Melbourne's northern suburbs, to Italian migrant parents. Being southern Italian brings with it a love of eating and cooking all things Italian. I participate in annual sauce making days and used to love salami making time with my dad.

I hope to share these traditions with my daughter Allegra who also has a love of all things pasta.

I have been at St Mary’s for twelve years but have been teaching for 20. During this time, I have taught a variety of year levels and held different leadership positions. I have always known that teaching was the only profession for me. I have a keen interest in student wellbeing, having completed my Masters in this area.

This interest in wellbeing led me to teach at the Royal Children’s Hospital. This was a remarkable learning experience both as an educator and as a person.  It helped me diversify my practices and understand young people's learning journey outside of a physical classroom.  However, I did miss having  my own class (and school holidays) and so this is where I am today.
