Term 4 Week 3

Community Week @ St. Mary's

Week 5 is a short one in terms of days at school!

Monday 2nd Nov is a School Closure day.

Tuesday 3rd is the Melbourne Cup day public holiday.

So we will only be at school for 3 days....and oh what a fun 3 days they will be! On Wednesday 4th November we will be having some 'SPORTS DAY' type activities in class groupings.  All students will need to wear their sports uniform on that day.  The 'STAFF / STUDENT RELAY TROPHY' will be up for grabs on the oval after lunch.

We will have our RED DAY for Child Safety on Thursday 5th November.  Children can WEAR A SPLASH OF RED with their uniform.  Lessons about child safety will be covered in the coming weeks.

The 6th November is Friday Fun Day.  Students can wear CASUAL CLOTHES  and we would love to see some CRAZY HAIR styles! We have a couple of other surprises too!

Education In Faith: In the Spirit of Mary MacKillop

On Saturday we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the canonisation of Australia’s first saint and one of our guiding lights here at St Mary’s, Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

The theme for this year’s celebration was Take fresh Courage (a quote written by Mary MacKillop on 21 May 1877) as, each time Mary experienced a cross, she took fresh courage. We were called to reflect on what advice does Mary give to help us to take fresh courage?

Take on fresh Courage in Leading

What would be Mary’s advice today in the midst of our current experience of Covid-19? As a leader, she was challenged to develop the courage, wisdom, clear-sightedness, counsel and steadfastness of good leadership. We remember the example of Mary MacKillop as she was elected Mother General at the first General Chapter of the Institute back in March 1875 and wonder what advice she would have for our Church and community leaders today. Perhaps she would have offered a prayer such as this:

PRAYER

Spirit of Authority,

in Jesus’ and Mary MacKillop’s lives,

we have examples of servant leadership.

Mentor us in our roles of leading.

Make us attentive to the Church and national leaders

endeavouring to keep people safe in this time of pandemic.

Help them to take advice from experts

as they decide on the best course of action

for the health and well-being of all people.

Encourage us to support our leaders’ efforts

for the common good.

We ask this in the name of Christ.

Amen  (Monica Barlow rsj)

Yours in Faith

Matthew Taylor

Religious Education Leader

Pollution Solution competition

Pollution Solution is a competition run by the Hobsons Bay city council.

This competition involves students from the local area sending in an online submission whether it be a video, a photo of how you recycle around your home, or something you have upcycled/created.

Why is recycling important?

Recycling is important because it benefits our beautiful beaches and natural habitats/ecosystems and the health of our planet.

Participating in this competition is a good way to show your knowledge and even go into the running to win an awesome prize.

Parent Feedback

As mentioned in last week's Principal's news, it would be a great shame if 2021 looks exactly like 2019. This year has been difficult for so many reasons, but there have also been some great things we have managed to achieve.
We'd like to hear from you about what's worth taking with us into 2021.

We invite you to fill out this form to share some of your ideas with us.
